Quill.org and aiEDU announce partnership to provide high-quality AI curricular resources to millions of students
June 10th, 2024
Quill.org will partner with aiEDU to curate a suite of resources that help build student knowledge of AI and its impact on society.
Quill.org and aiEDU, two 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations dedicated to building foundational AI literacy, have partnered together to curate a suite of resources from each organization that can be paired together to build student knowledge of AI. These curated offerings will be launching in the coming months to support teachers in providing quality AI education and instruction to their students by utilizing both aiEDU’s suite of learning experiences and Quill’s forthcoming AI education offerings through its Quill Reading for Evidence tool.
aiEDU creates equitable learning experiences that excite and empower students everywhere with AI literacy. The aiEDU team shares the belief that everyone — especially those who are likely to be disproportionately impacted by AI systems — should have access to the conceptual knowledge and skills they need to thrive as workers, creators, consumers, and citizens. aiEDU's multifaceted approach to advancing AI literacy and creating learning experiences that empower students to navigate and contribute to an AI-driven society includes providing both in-depth, 2-3 hour activities and quick snapshot discussion items to build knowledge of AI.
“We believe that high-quality curricular materials are critical to building AI readiness for all students,” said Alex Kotran, CEO of aiEDU. “Linking the Quill activities with aiEDU’s learning experiences means that teachers will have even more options available to both use AI safely in the classroom as well as teach about its impact.”
Quill has created a suite of 15-20 minute reading & writing activities that help students learn how AI will impact society over the next decade. These 21 instructional modules will launch over the course of the 2024-2025 school year through Quill’s Reading for Evidence tool and look at the different ways that AI is impacting society, including the future of work and the future of education, among other topics. Using Quill, students will read a 500-800 word source text on a specific AI concept and then complete three AI-powered writing prompts where they demonstrate their knowledge of the AI concepts by constructing their own responses. Quill’s AI-powered feedback bot will provide immediate feedback and coaching to help students build their comprehension of these AI concepts and revise their responses. For more information on this forthcoming AI offering, please refer to this previous announcement.
“We’re excited to work with aiEDU to help students learn how AI will impact our lives over the coming decades. Our nonprofits are both dedicated to teaching students about the risks and opportunities of AI,” said Peter Gault, Founder and Executive Director of Quill. “For example, both organizations provide classroom activities on research to build Large Language Models that can translate animal communication into human language. Quill’s Reading for Evidence activity introduces students to this exciting research through a case study paired with AI-powered writing prompts, and aiEDU provides students with a four-hour project where they explore the possibilities and challenges of communicating with different species using AI. By working together, our nonprofits can help thousands of educators across the country access free, high-quality instruction about the future of AI.”
